Deja Mood
Jackie came home tonight and started lighting candles in the windows again (we had done this on Friday night as part of the tribute to the attacks on 9/11). I asked her what she was doing, and she told me that “we’re supposed to do it again tonight”.
I haven’t heard about this. Frankly, and please don’t anyone flame me, I don’t see the point. The candle lighting was for rememberance. Are we supposed to remember again? Is there some new information that we need to remember? Did we do it wrong the first time? Did someone out in BFE forget a candle?
I don’t mind the candle lighting. I admire the original idea, to be honest, and I concede that it’s a week after the attacks, but this smacks of something less healthy — reopening wounds for the sake of reminding ourselves that it hurts, so we stay angry or hurt or confused or whatever we are.
People can’t stay in one position, physically or mentally, forever; eventually, your circulation cuts off and you go numb.
