The new house is great, but it doens’t have air conditioning. Normally, this isn’t a problem — I’d guess that there’s maybe two weeks out of the whole summer where it’s something you even bother thinking about. Maybe. The rest of the time it’s enough to run the attic fan in the evening, sleep with most of the windows in the house open, then button up the house in the morning to keep in the cool. Today is not one of those hot days. By 6, it was friggin’ brisk in the house, and I closed up most of the windows for the day not to keep in the cool, but to let the house warm up.
It smells like October today, and feels like it’s about 40 degrees out. This is nothing but a good thing as far as I’m concerned. Like my dad, the weather at this time of year is my favorite — not too cold, not too hot, and not too wet. The boy picked a good month to have his birthday in.
I have a sweater on so I don’t have to wear a jacket, the sidewalks are still damp, and my mood is hugely improved. I bet it snows in the mountains tonight. I love this state.
